Therapeutic Services

Diagnostic Services

Intensive [In-Home] Therapy Services (ITS) is available for families whose children are experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties and need more intensive services to increase stability across settings and help prevent out-of-home placement. Therapists collaborate with parents in the home setting to improve family functioning and help children develop strategies that will enable them to live successfully at home and in the community. The program focuses on the strengths and abilities of the family. ITS presents a non-threatening approach to the family: lowers stress and family conflict, reduces the chance of out-of-home placement whenever possible and appropriate, provides skills training, parenting techniques, conflict resolution, stress management and communication, educates the family regarding the child’s mental health issues and needs, and links the family to community services. ITS is a voluntary, culturally sensitive program designed to empower youth with severe emotional disturbances and their families to address their concerns through therapeutic interventions in their home, and requires active parental involvement.

Children Services

Children’s Therapeutic Support and Services (CTSS)

Children’s Therapeutic Support and Services (CTSS) provides therapeutic and educational interventions for children with emotional disturbance (ED) or severe emotional disturbance (SED). The primary focus of CTSS is to support children and their families in improving emotional and behavioral functioning within the community. This involves individualized life skills training and therapeutic services aimed at enhancing the child’s ability to manage emotional challenges and maintain stability across various life domains.

Life Skills Training is a key component of CTSS and is conducted through a 1:1 relationship between an adult staff member and a child. The goal is to provide a positive role model, reinforce positive behaviors, assist the child in developing and practicing new positive habits, and connect them to community-based activities. This strength-based approach also advocates for the child, offering consistent support and guidance. Life Skills Training typically involves meetings up to two times a week, primarily in the afternoons and evenings, to best accommodate the child and family’s needs.

School-Linked Mental Health

School-Linked Mental Health is a program in which Metro Social Services, Inc. places a clinical mental health provider at a community school to provide therapeutic services to students who have a mental health diagnosis. The school-based therapist is a valuable resource for the school and meets regularly with school personnel to consult and collaborate on the coordination of treatment and the needs of students.

The school-based therapist works with all students who qualify for mental health services. They do not need to be receiving special education services or have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Guardian involvement is encouraged and recommended.

School staff may make a referral to the therapist upon approval from the child’s parents or legal guardian. Services are intended for students who have been unable to access mental health resources, and require a face-to-face intake meeting to complete the intake and assessment process.

Children’s Mental Health Targeted and General Case Management
  • Children’s Mental Health Targeted Case Management: Children’s Mental Health Targeted Case Management provides essential support and coordination services to children with serious emotional disturbance (SED). The case management team works closely with children and their families to navigate and coordinate services, ensuring the provision of culturally appropriate and effective support to help maintain and increase independence. Case managers typically meet with clients on a monthly basis, or more frequently as needed, to ensure ongoing progress and service access.

Adult Services

Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS)

Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) support adults in learning and refining essential skills for independent, community-based living. The goal of ARMHS is to strengthen the individual’s basic social, living, and coping skills, essential for fostering mental health recovery and maintaining stability in their daily life.

Eligible recipients of ARMHS are individuals aged 18 or older who are diagnosed with a medical condition such as mental illness or traumatic brain injury, and who require rehabilitative services. ARMHS services are provided by mental health professionals, mental health practitioners, and rehabilitation workers who are trained in offering treatment and support to adults living with mental health challenges. The program is tailored to empower clients in managing their mental health needs while integrating into the community.

Adult Mental Health Targeted Case Management (AMH-TCM)

Adult Mental Health Targeted Case Management (AMH-TCM) services are designed to assist adults aged 18 and older with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) in gaining access to the necessary services to address their mental health needs. These services include the development of functional assessments (FA) and individual community support plans (ICSP), as well as individual family community support plans (IFCSP). AMH-TCM case managers help clients connect to medical, social, educational, vocational, and other services that are integral to their recovery and overall well-being. The case management process involves referring and linking individuals to appropriate services, ensuring coordination across various providers, and monitoring the effectiveness of services delivered.
