Job Description
The Mental Health Practitioner is responsible for providing direct treatment services to children with severe emotional disturbance and their families.
Educational Qualifications
Mental Health Practitioner must meet one of the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in social work or related field from an accredited college or university plus 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to children with emotional disturbance; or
- Master's or other graduate degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields from an accredited college or university or Significant (6,000 hours) supervised experience in working with children with severe emotional disturbance.
Responsibilities
The position provides therapeutic and educational interventions to African American youth with severe emotional disturbance (SED) or emotional disturbance (ED) and their families. It involves working with children and their families in the community to enable a child maintain and improve emotional and behavioral functioning. Staff is expected to meet with client up to two times a week, mostly in the afternoon and evenings.
- Work with families and a mental health professional in developing individual treatment plans
- Provide skills training to children, youth, and families
- Provide Adult Mental Health Rehabilitative Services (AMHRS) to individuals and families
- Maintain clear and accurate records of services provided
- Work closely with schools and other community service providers in coordinating services
- Participate in the agency's continuous quality improvement activities
